The aim of this module is to provide the learner with an understanding of the role and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Officer for ensuring compliance with an organisation’s safeguarding policy.

This module will cover:
  • Understanding safeguarding structure and recognising the various levels of support needed.
  • Introducing the law, policies and guidance documents for best practice in safeguarding.
  • Recognising the roles and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Officer.
  • Understanding the role and purpose of the Child Protection Conference including plans and reviews.
  • Responding to reports of abuse appropriately and efficiently ensuring that disclosures from children are handled sensitively and know when it’s appropriate to share information.
On completion of this module, learners will be able to:
  • Understand the safeguarding framework, adeptly providing tailored support to children with varying needs, ranging from Early Help Assessment to engaging with social care.
  • Identify best practice regarding law, policies and guidance documents related to safeguarding activities.
  • Recognise the roles and responsibilities of a Designated Safeguarding Officer.
  • Respond effectively and promptly to instances of abuse, ensuring sensitive handling of children’s disclosures, while knowing when and how to share information appropriately.
