The aim of this module is to provide the learner with an understanding of the specific safeguarding challenges faced by children with disabilities and young people, including how to recognise signs of abuse, follow appropriate reporting procedures, and implement best practices in safeguarding.

This module will cover:
  • Recognising the most appropriate language and terminology to use when referring to a child or young person with a disability.
  • Exploring the impact that a disability can have on a child, their family and their care needs.
  • Understanding why children with disabilities are more vulnerable to abuse and neglect.
  • Identifying the potential warning signs to look out for which may suggest abuse.
  • Introducing the principles of best practice in responding to concerns about child abuse, including effective communication including steps for reporting and record keeping.
On completion of this module, learners will be able to:
